The Jacket-Le Jazz Hot

I can’t stop thinking about girls, well girls in Jackets to be more precise…

Any type of Jacket will do: Tux, Smoking, Military, Sequined, Cropped, Single breasted, or Double breasted. I think this obsession started after watching Victor Victoria with Julie Andrews and seeing how super spiffing she looked in a tux . It was the tux (amongst other things) that I was attracted to, the cheekiness of a man’s shape being worn by woman and the boyish glamour which I found very seductive-very English!

It was Yves Saint Laurent, one of the greatest designers of the 20th century that first fashionably pioneered the minimalist, androgynous style of Jackets for women in the sixties. His signature creation famously became known as ‘Le Smoking’, and it set the tone everywhere for women to get a little bit of their butch on. It was said that ‘ Chanel gave women their freedom; years later Saint Laurent brought them power.’  The Jacket made a statement it had everybody’s attention, and it helped transform women’s function in society. 

Unfortunately, today YSL is no longer with us but he left his mark on the ‘Jacket’ and he paved the way for the rest of us girls to be able to experiment with all types of gender defying looks.

Single and Double breasted styles to get you ‘performing’ by Elizabeth and James and ‘Marc’ by Marc Jacobs all available at Bloomingdales .   

Every wardrobe needs one great jacket–make it versitile, throw it on with jeans and a t-shirt, use it to butch up a little black dress.  The right jacket can follow you anywhere, keeping your look cool while covering up those shoulders and simultaneously keeping you le warm…errr le hot!
