When to Send ‘Em

Lots of ladies love to get ’em, and butch or femme, they can bring a flush of blush to one’s cheeks.  But the question lingers for some: when to send ’em?  For our purposes today, we’ll keep it strictly to roses–classic, elegant, beautiful.  There’s a rose for every occasion.

First, the red rose, or rather–a dozen or so; send these to say “I love you.”  Whether for the first time, or the 10th time in the same day, twelve or more of these are worth a thousand words…and by a thousand, we mean three.  Long-stems say, “I know old school romance.” Two dozen say, “I’m over the top and you love it.”  A single rose can be creepy–or sweet–depending on your age and the manner of presentation.  Only leave a single rose if it’s accompanied by a beautiful note, or an intent to stalk and kill a pet rabit.

PINK!  If you’re dating an exceptionally girly girl, pink roses scream: “I get you!  I understand!  And I love it!”  Even if you’re not the frilliest of fillies, sending a package of pinkies is sure to give you a tickle.  These are also acceptable for mothers, aunts, grandmas etc.  Say “Happy Mothers Day” or “Thanks a bunch” and see your stock rise in relatives’ eyes–that’s the power of pink.

Nice day for a white wedding…  Seriously folks, white roses are for weddings, funerals, first-holy-communions, etc.  Generally, the white rose symbolizes “purity” and/or “secrecy” so if you’re having an affair with a virgin, send white roses.  If not, do not send your lover white roses–inappropriate.  White roses are beautiful, yes, but not necessary for the purposes of the NB.

This NB is totally bias here–orange roses are my absolute favorite.  They’re fun, they’re friendly, warm and happy–they brighten every room.  Send these to say “Thanks for being my girlfriend;”  “Just thinkin’ about you;”  “Hope you feel better;”  “Happy Birthday;” “Happy Tuesday;” etc.  Send these to friends, to lovers, to relatives, or bosses–strangers, clients, assistants etc.  Multi-colored bouquets are ubiquitous as well.

When in doubt, send a multi-pack. Do the flower-sampler.  If you’re not sure what you’re saying, if you’re worried about being too specific, too direct, too forward–send a mixed bouquet.  Start slow.  There’s nothing wrong with a soft approach.

Personally, this NB enjoys the 1800-flowers.  They’re always reliable, the quality is always good, and you can pick your delivery time.  If you’re picking them up on the way to the date, any local shop will do.  Best of luck in all your pickins! And remember, there’s no wrong time to send the right flowers.

  1. You have posted wonderful pictures of flowers. It must be appreciated. Nice blog.

  2. I understand the thinking behind your comments on white roses, but I have to say, this femme loves them above all other colors. 🙂 They’re elegant, cool, refined, and set off any other flowers they’re combined with. I’d swoon for an NB who gave me white roses. 🙂
